Earlier in July the French luxury brand Louis Vuitton opened an in-store boutique at Nordstrom on Chicago's Michigan Avenue. This is the first Louis Vuitton leased department within a Nordstrom store and marks the first new Louis Vuitton department store partnership since 1995 when Louis Vuitton opened at Bloomgindale's New York.
Previously Louis Vuitton first opened leased departments within Saks Fifth Avenue in 1925, Neiman Marcus in 1948 and Macy’s in 1982.
"We are thrilled to enter into this new partnership with Nordstrom and are confident it will be a successful venture,” said Daniel Lalonde, President and CEO of Louis Vuitton North America.
“There is no better city to open our first Nordstrom location in than Chicago, where Louis Vuitton first debuted in the United States.”
In this post I've including my favorite photos taken at the opening Louis Vuitton party that took place last Thursday, 10 July at the new store.
Louis Vuitton in Chicago
Louis Vuitton has a deep rooted history with the city of Chicago. In 1893, Georges Vuitton brought Louis Vuitton to the United States for the first time to display at the Chicago World’s Fair, where Vuitton’s goods were classified as “hors concours” (outside competition) due to their outstanding merit. In 1905, Marshall Field & Company became one of the first few department stores in the United States to carry Louis Vuitton.
"We are delighted to be partnering with Louis Vuitton on our first shop together at our Michigan Avenue store. Louis Vuitton is a coveted luxury brand that both our customers and Nordstrom hold in the highest esteem. Carrying their world-renowned product in our store fits with our merchandise strategy of offering our customers the best the market has to offer," said Pete Nordstrom, President of Merchandising for Nordstrom.
The Louis Vuitton at Nordstrom Michigan Avenue is the 123rd Louis Vuitton location in North America. The store is 2,000 square feet and located on Nordstrom’s main floor across from the designer shoe department and offers a mix of Louis Vuitton leather goods, including designer handbags and luggage, alongside accessories such as Louis Vuitton sunglasses, ties and an extensive selection of women's designer shoes.
It's a win-win for both the luxury brand and the retailer. The Seattle-based Nordstrom Inc. expands its designer business adding to its luxury accessory collections that it currently carries, such as Manolo, Choo and Louboutin, while LVMH Moet Hennesy Louis Vuitton opens up yet another avenue for growth.
Louis Vuitton a World of Luxury
A worldwide leader in luxury since 1854, Louis Vuitton has become synonymous with the art of elegant travel. Its leather goods are renowned throughout the world for ultimate quality, craftsmanship, innovation and stylish luxury.
From 1997, with the arrival of Marc Jacobs as artistic director, it has extended its range to women and men prêt-à-porter, shoes, watches and jewelry. Louis Vuitton has an exclusive network of 402 wholly owned stores in 59 countries around the world. It has been a member of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the greatest and most successful luxury goods group worldwide since 1987.
So if you’re at Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale on Chicago's Michigan Avenue over the next couple of weeks, make sure that you take some time out of your sale shopping to check out the new Louis Vuitton store!!
That´s special. I am curious about what profit the store will make. Usually a partnership can be very helpful, but Louis Vuitton could make it on his own, also.
