Fashion Designer Emilia Wickstead

Recently, London based Abby Hastings attended a fashion show in London’s West End premiering Emilia Wickstead’s to die for summer 08’ collection. Abby spoke highly about this collection and so I invited her to talk about this talented Vogue-featured fashion designer whom she met.

If you are looking for the latest affordable and wearable couture then look no further. I recently had the pleasure of attending a fashion show premiering Emilia Wickstead’s to die for summer 08’ collection show cased in London’s West End. This collection beautifully illustrates this fashion designer's ability to create sophisticated and versatile everyday classics as well as key luxury pieces including flirty day dresses, versatile separates and sexy cocktail/evening dresses.

Fashion designer Emilia Wickstead is newly established in London after building up a loyal client base at her home town in New Zealand, her second home Milan and then New York where she spent some time working for a number of renowned fashion designers including Giorgio Armani, Luella, Proenza Schouler and Narciso Rodriquez. Now based in London, Emilia is focusing on her own designer label and is quickly becoming one of London’s rising stars. She has already emerged as the talented designer she is in Vogue and Tatler UK.

Emilia Wickstead has a solid background in the world of fashion, growing up with her mother as a fashion designer and later moving to Milan as a teen then going on to graduate in fashion design at Central St. Martin’s College. She found her calling early in life but her flair is not the type that can be learned, her pieces are classic and elegant with her signature edge of pleats and polished silhouettes which carry through the entire collection. These are the feminine ready to wear pieces that you have been looking for!

I like the timeless sophistication of her white Sarah Trench Sleeveless belted coat/dress with high collar and pleated back reflecting a 1920’s feel and the full skirted dress with feature back pleating and optional waist belt in navy blue royal silk; the luxury Italian fabric is voluminous and the length means it’s perfect for the evening.

I met with Emilia myself for a fitting and to discuss her label. All of her designs are fashioned from the most luxurious fabrics sourced from Italian mills and garments can be custom made according to your size and preference at a very competitive price; the average custom fit dress price being around £290. This is reasonable and even affordable for such high-quality tailoring. As you can see from the pieces pictured here, Emilia’s style is sophisticated, chic and elegant, and her creations are guaranteed to turn heads and make a big impact.

This dress is also shown in pale blue raw silk resembling linen for a pretty daytime look.

Emilia Wickstead provides her clients with a made-to-measure service with the opportunity for customers to choose not only their own color but also the fabrics. Her private showroom is located in the incredibly fashionable Chelsea area where you can view her entire range by appointment. She still runs consultations in New Zealand every 6 months by invitation only and New York and Milan by private appointment.

I am now looking forward to seeing her up coming Autumn/Winter collection and believe that the fashion world will be hearing a lot more about this talented fashion designer, so stay tuned. For more information please visit her website at Emilia Wickstead.
