Sex and the City (SATC) Movie Sequel Update

Greetings SATC fans! Can you believe that it’s just one month until May 27 when the Sex and the City movie sequel hits theaters worldwide? In fact, tickets have already gone on sale at Regal Cinemas across the country! And should anyone doubt that SATC 2 is going to be a huge hit, industry sources are saying that tickets for the SATC movie sequel are already outselling other movies that are just days away from release.

The article 'Sex and the City 2' tickets already a hot item, in The Hollywood Reporter quotes Fandango spokesperson Harry Medved saying: “It was nearly 20% of our daily sales when it first went on sale, outpacing (new box office champ) ‘Kick-Ass,’ which was 17% of sales.” Talk about impressive! It’s clear that audiences can’t get enough of our fabulous foursome -- Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker, SJP), Miranda Hobbes-Brady (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis). Have you gotten your tickets yet? I’m thinking that I should do it now before opening night sells out.

New SATC 2 Movie Poster and Extended SATC 2 Movie Trailer Hit the Web

Until then though, Warner Brothers Entertainment and New Line Cinema are doing their best to help ease the wait. They’ve released an all-new SATC movie sequel poster and an extended SATC 2 movie trailer which will definitely ramp up excitement for what is sure to be another blockbuster.

In the new SATC movie sequel poster, shown above and at AccessHollywood.com, Sarah Jessica Parker sashays across the desert dunes in a flowing exotic print dress and sky-high strappy sandals. And in a cool graphic treatment, our SATC heroine is holding a pair of Chanel Dance Mask sunglasses which offer a reflection of the New York City skyline. What a stylish way to incorporate the two SATC movie sequel locations into one image! Although I liked the original poster of SJP in the now-famous White Halston Heritage V-neck dress, Gold Christian Louboutin heels and Gold Mykita & Bernhard Wilhelm sunglasses (see “Sex and the City Move 2: The Fashion” in our January update, this new SATC 2 poster is definitely my favorite. SJP looks positively radiant, and there’s just something so ethereal about the whole image. Maybe it’s the glistening sand of the desert background or perhaps it’s the delicate, airy feel of the chic fashion. Whatever it is, I love it!

Even more exciting than the new SATC 2 movie poster, however, is the release of an all-new extended SATC movie sequel trailer! In addition to a bit more focus on Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte, it gives us our first peek of the much hyped cameos by Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus and Liza Minnelli along with confirmation that last Fall’s location shoot in Morocco was indeed meant to substitute for Abu Dhabi. As we reported in our August update (see Sex and the City (SATC) Movie Sequel: No ‘Sex’ for Dubai:), plans to film part of the SATC movie sequel in Dubai were scrapped when negotiations with United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities fell through. However, we now know for sure that, despite filming in Morocco, plans to depict part of the film in Abu Dhabi remained in tact. As Samantha puts it, “One week in Abu Dhabi, all expenses paid, for all four of us.” And it’s clear from the trailer that a lot is going to happen during that one week!

Sex and the City Movie Sequel (SATC 2) Aidan is Back!

But the biggest buzz coming out of the extended SATC movie sequel trailer is the return of John Corbett as Aidan Shaw. Although the 48 year-old actor had denied any involvement in the SATC movie sequel during an interview with Access Hollywood back in January (see John Corbett Shoots Down ‘Sex And The City 2’ Rumors, Says He Wasn’t In Morocco), Corbett has since admitted that Carrie Bradshaw’s ex will indeed be back on the big screen when SATC 2 hits theaters in May. Ellen Degeneres was the first to get the inside scoop on Aidan’s return when Corbett appeared on her talk show, Ellen, in late March. Recapping the interview, AccessHollywood.com (see: John Corbett Admits Aiden Shaw Is In ‘Sex And The City 2’) quoted Corbett:

These rumors started about seven months ago because somebody took a picture of me in Morocco and I felt really bad because for the last six months every time somebody said, ‘Are you in this movie?’ I had to lie about it,” he said. “I just found out I'm going to be in the trailer, so I get to break the news on your show that Aidan gets to come back to Sex and the City.

As for whether Aidan and Carrie might rekindle their romance, Corbett hints that it’s a possibility. According to USweekly.com (John Corbett on SATC 2: Carrie Could Have Affair With Aidan), the actor fueled speculation during an April 19 radio interview for On Air with Ryan Seacrest. Speaking about the state of Carrie’s relationship with Big, he says, “It doesn't seem like things are going that well in that marriage.” And when asked by Seacrest whether Carrie and Aidan could hypothetically hook up again, Corbett replied, “Oh yeah! Of course! There's always that vibe.” Wow. The return of Aidan brings so many possibilities. I’m counting the days until May 27 when the SATC movie sequel opens and we can see where this love triangle goes!

Sex and the City Movie Sequel (SATC 2) Parker Power: SJP in Vogue

If you haven’t already rushed to the newsstand to pick up the May issue of Vogue, rest assured that it doesn’t disappoint. The special “Great American Women” issue features Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover, looking stunning in an Azure Calvin Klein Collection silk front-pleat dress ($1,995), Fred Leighton 19th century Diamond pendant earrings ($225,000) and a Fred Leighton Art Deco Diamond and Onyx bracelet ($750,000 for a pair). 

In preparation for the 10-page profile piece on SJP, Vogue contributing editor Vicki Woods conducted numerous interviews with Parker over the past year. Appropriately titled, “Parker Power,” the article describes SJP’s status as a “phenomenally influential force (and driver of merchandise) in terms of culture, fashion, style, and beauty for vast numbers of women in their 20s and up” while giving readers insight into the down-to-earth wife, mother and, as SATC writer-director Michael Patrick King puts it, ‘star next door,’ who so many of us have come to admire. 

Discussing the aging of the SATC women including her alter-ego, Carrie Bradshaw, Parker said,

“We’re still playing—uh, I don’t know how old Carrie is! Is she about 42 now? I think Carrie’s younger than I (Parker is 45), and Miranda and Charlotte are younger than they are in real life. Samantha was always the older lady, so she’s 52 now and talks a lot about what comes with that. In the movie. Talks about menopause. Comedically.” 

And as for the ongoing tabloid-fueled rumors of tension on the set? SJP attempts to put them to rest yet again.

“We four women, despite I guess what a lot of people hope, have never been better. This movie—and maybe it’s because we actually lived together—it was the best! We were together all day long, at night, in the restaurants, in our hotels. It was wonderful.”

The perfect complement to the article, Vogue.com (Sarah Jessica Parker) has posted a fabulous three-minute video which offers a behind-the-scenes look at Sarah Jessica’s May cover shoot with famed fashion photographer Mario Testino. The two-day shoot took place at The Beacon in Jersey City, described by the NYPost.com (Sarah Jessica Parker's wintry bikini?) as a “historically restored luxury residential development known, according to its promoters, for ‘soaring loft spaces, art-deco grandeur and million-dollar views of the Manhattan skyline.’”

Take a peek at the video diary and check out the exquisite still image of SJP (at the 0:42 second mark) wearing a Dior Haute Couture Blush-and-Claret silk strapless dress which was flown from Paris to NYC specifically for the shoot. It is simply breathtaking! But of course there’s more. Among the behind-the-scenes footage, we see shots of the style icon in a Lanvin Dusty-Rose cotton-and-silk strapless dress with a Solange Azagury-Partridge necklace; a Giambattista Valli silk-velvet jacquard bolero with grosgrain-ribbon trim and matching sleeveless dress; Chanel Lipstick-Red silk-faille dress with embellishment and bracelet paired with Fred Leighton earrings; and Vera Wang Butterscotch silk duchesse-satin dress with matching bolero.

Discussing her new role as president and chief creative officer of Halston Heritage, Parker told Woods that she did not make the decision lightly. Woods writes,

“They were very persuasive, she (Parker) says, although she gave them every possible excuse to walk away. She told them they were taking ‘a very untraditional route’ and that they'd be bludgeoned for it.”

But ultimately, she was persuaded. Says Parker,

“There was every reason to say no, and there were very compelling reasons to say yes…. It’s an exciting time at that company. It has had some false starts that are well documented and it is relaunching itself. It has a wonderful legacy, and I couldn’t say no.”

Zac Posen for Target Collection In Stores Now!

For those desperately wanting to purchase from the Zac Posen for Target collection, and many fashionistas are as can be seen from the long line formed around the block by New Yorkers at the April 15, Zac Posen for Target collection launch (see the picture below), reports are merging that the chic collection is out now in some stores around the country. In the April 23 post on the Zac for Target Collection, Racked has reported possible early sittings of the collection around the Southland, quoting one source as saying pieces including the red leather jackets, the gown, the brocade skirt and a few other pieces on the salesfloor of Target at La Cienega.
In the post titled This just in: Zac Posen for Target arriving earlier than planned! Jazzi McGilbert in the Spiel Blog of Style Section L.A. reports that the designer’s low-priced fashions are actually in area Target stores TODAY “At the Target on La Cienega Blvd. in Culver City, we found a good selection of the collection (which is actually quite cute) in a good range of sizes, though pieces are being snapped up quickly.”
Others have similarly reported seeing the Zac Posen for Target Collection out in stores now. Some have even uploaded pics of their buys. @fashionxcourt has spotted the Zac Posen for Target maxi dresses out now. GypsyJax has already purchased the Zac Posen bikini and a long summer dress and Rumineely has purchased the Zac Posen for Target Snap Tape Dress in Fighter Pilot Blue.
Well the proof is certainly out there!!! So if you want to beat the long queues and the likely crazy fitting room lines, then check out your nearest Target store before the actual release on Sunday just in case! Perhaps you too will be lucky enough to snag your favorite pieces from the Zac Posen for Target Collection before the rush. As well as this, given our earlier report that the Zac Posen for Target collection runs small (see Celebrities Wearing Zac Posen for Target), purchasing early and without the crowds will mean that you can comfortably try the clothes on before you buy.
Another tip is to purchase online and take advantage of Target’s current free shipping offer, try the items for size and if you’re not happy with the fit then return the items to any Target store. Celebrities Wearing Zac Posen for Target

Not so long ago one or two celebs were spotted wearing pieces from the Zac Posen for Target collection. First Dakota Fanning was seen wearing the Black Zac Posen for Target tuxedo jacket to a press release for her new movie, The Runaways. Then, on April 7 Nicky Hilton was spotted wearing the Zac Posen for Target Sailor Dress in Animal Print (one of my fave pieces from the collection) at Nylon magazine's 11th Anniversary Party at Hollywood hotspot Trousdale. But now, since Target’s 24-hour launch party and shopping event at the New Yorker Hotel in New York City, NY on April 15, the hype on the Zac Posen for Target collection has really gone up the Richter scale!

The launch party was a very colorful event and as you can see from the pictures below, many of Zac Posen’s friends and celebrity guests wore pieces from his Target collection. As shown in the picture above, even each member of the all-girl group The Like that were rocking out with a live performance at the Zac Posen for Taregt launch event were rocking a piece from the collection. The drummer wore the two-piece Zac Posen for Target Ruffle dress in red, the organist in the Zac Posen for Target Tuxedo, the lead guitarist in the Zac Posen for Target Tuxedo Bodysuit and the Tuxedo Skirt in Black, and the bass guitarist wore the lovely Zac Posen for Target Brocade Tie Dress.

As shown in the first picture below with Zac Posen, Selma Blair wore the Zac Posen for Target Two-piece Ruffle Dress in Black and Claire Danes wore the gorgeous Zac Posen for Target Pink/Safety Pin-Print gown.

The word is that the Zac Posen for Target collection runs small so the tip is if you’re not going to try the clothes on before you buy then order one size up. So if you’re planning on shopping in store and thinking of skipping the likely crazy dressing room lines, or if you’re going to shop online at Target.com/go then you best grab one size bigger than you think. But who knows if this is the case for each piece in the collection!!! My bet i that size will only be a problem with some of the pieces. For example, the Zac Posen for Target Snap Tape dress will stretch but the top of the Zac Posen for Target two-piece ruffle dress doesn’t so depending on your bust size you may need one size up for this number.

The Zac Posen for Target designer collection is certainly chic, bright and colorful (red socks and heels included), and as you can see, the 35-piece collection provides well for mixing-and-matching. The adorable collection is very girly, even the tuxes are girly, and great for Spring. Most items in the collection are dresses and skirts and most of these are flirty low-cut minis sitting high above the knees; perhaps a bit too high for day dresses and perhaps more suited to teens and the skinny ones. Because of this, they may not suit the bigger or more curvy girls amongst us, but then that’s Zac Posen. Notwithstanding, some pieces I don't particularly like and others are a standout.
The Zac Posen the Brocade Tie Dress (Look 1) is cute but has a massive side bow which I don’t particularly fancy. Also, while some of the pieces are super chic, I’m not hot on some of the looks created with them. For example, the Zac Posen for Target Brocade Skirt in Floral Print is really chic but not with the Ruched Bikini Top in Black/Gold look (Look 2). Yes cheap chic, but not for me. For me, this skirt would look heaps better with the Zac Posen for Target Zac Tee in Tie Dye Print (Look 7) or even the Zac Lipstick Tee in Red (Look 9) or the Zac Posen Pleated Top in Pink/Tie Dye Print (Look 11). I like the styling of the Red and Black two-piece Ruffle Zac Posen dresses for Target (Looks 12 and 13), great for a party or as prom dresses, however the material used looks a bit thin. I’ll have to wait and see on this one! Talking about style, the Zac Posen for Target Gown in Pink/Safety Pin-Print (Look 14) is gorgeous as a gown or maxi dress. Other dresses in the collection are also cute but I especially like the Snap Tape Dress in Blue (Look 3) and the Sailor Dress in Animal Print (Look 5 and the top of which is shown in more detail in the image directly below), the latter being my standout favourite Zac Posen dress in the Zac Posen for Target designer collection.  Now what do you think?

The Devil may well wear Prada but there’s no doubt that Hollywood princess Paris Hilton loves to wear Voom and Vava by Joy Han having been spotted wearing the brand numerous times many times now both on and off-screen. Paris Hilton is an avid fan of Voom's bright colors, bold patterns, and chic red carpet styles.  But she’s not the only celebrity that loves to wear Voom. Do you?

Paris Hilton out to make a Fashion Statement in Voom by Joy Han’s Peacock One Shoulder Dress

Always one to make a fashion statement, Paris Hilton got coffee in LA wearing this gorgeous Voom by Joy Han's Peacock One Shoulder Dress. Looking chic as ever with her large dark sunglasses and loop earrings, the heiress color coordinated her mint mini with matching jewelry and sky high heels.

This gorgeous designer dress is available at Voom Online and Unique Vintage and currently priced at $216. Here’s another pic of the Voom by Joy Han's Peacock One Shoulder Dress that I think better shows off the chic style of this Voom by Joy Han creation. It’s easy to see that this designer dress can certainly be worn at both dressy cocktail parties as well as at more fun and relaxed casual outings. The mint and rust peacock print design is also available as a blouson dress (see discussion below), a caftan, and a tube dress. I love it!

Paris also loves the Voom by Joy Han, Lacey Flutter Sleeve dress which she wore some time back at the Crown Bar in L.A. (West Hollywood). A second and possibly better view of this little number can be seen in the thrid picture directly below. This gorgeous 100% Silk short party dress is available at Voom online at $262 in amazing Emerald Green, Purple and Red. The dress features a beautiful silk base with eclectic design graphic lace trim around the sleeves and hemline, ruffled sleeves, and a sexy v-neck cut off top. I’ve not seen it in Purple or Red but have to say that it absolutely looks stunning in Emerald Green.

In the image directly below on the right we see the princess in the lovely Voom by Joy Han Eden Babydoll dress in White. The Voom Eden Babydoll dress is a beautiful 100% White Silk dress with a floral design and featuring split spaghetti straps with a V-neckline and an empire waistline. This dress will easily make a woman feel young, beautiful, and confident. It’s super sexy and like the Sandra Bubble Dress, oozes femininity, don’t you think?

Here Paris Hilton is seen in the Voom by Joy Han Parrot tube dress. This one’s  in a Black with spaghetti straps and colorful parrot print but it’s also available in Fuchsia. I think it looks dressy and perfect for dinner in Black and in Fuchsia would be a good choice for the beach or a loungy day about town!

American Idol Starlets and Other Celebrities also Love Voom and Vava by Joy Han

But it’s not only Paris Hilton that loves Voom and Vava by Joy Han. This fashion designer has dressed many celebrities in the music and entertainment industry including Nicky Hilton, Jessica Alba, Carrie Underwood, Katherine Heigl, Eva Longoria Parker and Miley Cyrus. It seems that American Idol hopeful Katie Stevens, posed in Voom by Joy Han's Gwen Babydoll, is also a Voom by Joy Han fan. The young singer looked like a star in the Black and Magenta striped designed Gwen Babydoll dress accessorized with layered necklaces and large cocktail ring. The adorable Gwen Babydoll dress retails for $174 at Voom Online and is available in Magenta, Navy and Brown.

Contestant Didi Benami is also a fan of this fashion designer label and performed in Voom by Joy Han's Glamour Asymmetrical mini and Sandra Tube dress. Similar to the Voom Sandra Bubble Dress as shown worn by Paris Hilton above, the Sandra Tube Dress here shown worn by Didi Benami, is 100% Silk in a pretty ombre. Personally, as shown in the image below, I think that the Voom by Joy Han Sandra Tube dress looks much better without the short sleeved and cropped jacket as shown being worn by Didi Benami.

My Favourite Voom by Joy Han Dress

Fashionistas!!! Before closing and in case you haven’t seen it before, I just have to show you my all time favourite Voom by Joy Han dress. It’s the Flora tube dress, a runway favourite at the Voom Fashion Show. Made of 100% silk fabric and adorned with colorful floral print, this Voom creation is available in Black, Fuchsia and Teal, but the Fuchsia as shown here is for me.

This strapless dress, is super chic, flirty and sexy. I’m not sure but I think the first time I saw the Voom by Joy Han Flora tube dress was early in 2009 being worn by Megan Joy on American Idol. This ninth place finalist on the eighth season of American Idol wore it in teal which complimented her tatoos on her upper right arm. Whatever color you fancy, Voom by Joy Han’s Flora tube dress is just perfect for spring! It looks super chic and sexy. I love, love, love it! Only trouble is, it was so popular that it quickly sold out and now the only place I have seen it is on ebay!

Rock & Republic Files for Bankruptcy Protection

Rock & Republic – Hits Difficult Financial Times

The Los Angeles Times reports that another player in the supercompetitive and cut-throat premium denim industry, this time pricey designer denim and jeans brand Rock & Republic, has hit tough financial times (see: Rock & Republic files for bankruptcy protection). The report states that Rock & Republic, one of the most recognizable names in the premium denim industry, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in order to ease financial pressure:

"The Culver City company, whose products are sold in upscale department stores such as Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom as well as specialty retailers and its own free-standing stores, said the filing would ease pressure on its balance sheet. Day-to-day operations are expected to continue."

Rock & Republic – Lower Cost Recession Collection

While Rock & Republic operated at the more pricey, premium denim end of the market, like many other fashion brands feeling the pinch of the troubled economy, in March 2009 introduced a limited edition lower cost designer jeans collection, priced in the range $128 to $132, to appeal to recession-weary shoppers. Rock and Republic’s aptly named “Recession Collection” was available at Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue. The image above left shows the Berlin Skinny Rock & Republic jeans in Reconcile Brown available at $132 from Rock & Republic.

Although a little harder to find now, if you’re a recessionista or cash-strapped at the moment then if you hunt around you can still find great deals on the Rock & Republic “Recession Collection.” I recently saw the Rock & Republic Stella Recession Collection low rise jeans, a really chic and casual designer jeans, reduced down from $132 to $105 at Piperlime and Zappos. In fact, not so long ago Piperlime had a 40% OFF sale with the Rock & Republic Recession Collection Berlin Skinny in Stimulus reduced down to $79.

Rock & Republic – Refocus

I love designer jeans from brands like True Religion but have to say that I love my rocks for just chilling out!! So if you too are amongst the many Rock & Republic devotees then don't worry for now as operating under Chapter 11 protection, that is under court protection from creditors, will allow Rock & Republic to keep operating while it tries to trade out of its financial position. Rock & Republic plans to refocus on its shoe and core apparel businesses.

It will be interesting to see whether now with the financial pressures that it is under and the need to refocus, Rock & Republic will do more at the lower priced end of the market. My only issue with this will be if this is at the price of quality then Rock & Republic may well hit the rocks.
