Fashion Designer Danilo Gabrielli

Fashion Designer, Danilo Gabrielli, has come a long way from his humble upbringing in a small town on the West Coast of Tuscany, and is now proudly making his mark on the American market. The fashion designer has always been fascinated by meticulous design. As a young boy, watching the prominent women in his family sew their own clothing spurred him to create his own designs. From there, it was obvious that his future was set, yet knowing full well that his family could not afford the tuition of a formal design school education in Rome, Danilo enlisted with the Italian Navy where he served for three years and saved the money necessary to make his first foray into the world of fashion.

Gabrielli attended Rome’s prestigious fashion school, Accadamia Pistoiese, where he studied costume design for film and television, setting the groundwork for the position of Assistant Designer at Rome’s premier costume house, Sartoria Neri Moda. It was here where Danilo Gabrielli worked on the Academy Award winning film, Cinema Paradiso, which was granted the award for best foreign film in 1989.

In 1994, after an illustrious career in Italy, Danilo made a daring move to the fashion capital of the world, New York City. He hit the ground running, joining forces with fashion power house Liz Claiborne, where he served as Senior Accessories Designer. Later he joined Tommy Hilfiger as Senior Design Director for four years, and Anne Klein where he sat as Senior Creative Design Director for another four, later joining Club Monaco as Director of Design for Women Accessories. Danilo currently holds the position of Design Director for private label brands such as Aldo and Nordstrom.

Fashion Designer Danilo Gabrielli Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

In March 2011, Gabrielli set his sights on a new challenge: creating his own line. The namesake collection was launched at the Spring/Summer 2012 Nolcha Fashion Week: New York. Inspired by Bridgette Bardot, a woman who carried a certain sense of sensuality and je ne sais quoi, the collection embodies escape, a line guided by the aesthetics of tranquility and beauty.

Continuing the growth of the Danilo Gabrielli collection, the designer showcased his Fall/Winter 2012 collection at Nolcha again this season. Drawing inspiration from the glamorous 1940’s era of the likes of Greta Garbo, the Italian designer created a versatile, feminine collection that speaks to an age where women were beginning to join the workforce. Influences of 40’s jazz style can also be found in the DNA of this effortlessly cool collection. The line consists of suits, dresses, slacks, blouses and coats in addition to highlighting his signature piece, the reversible skirt.  The collection is being carried at Mayfair House in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood. Danilo Gabrielli continues to pursue his passion for design and is currently working on the Spring 2013 collection of his line, which is inspired by the 1920's with a focus on feminine prints and silhouettes.

  6. Danilo’s Fall/ Winter 2012 collection was inspired by the great 1940’s era. This was a legendary time in Hollywood with famous stars such as Greta Garbo and Lauren Bacall and also a time when women were becoming stronger in the workforce. Danilo has designed this collection using masculine styles yet maintaining a feminine feel. His “40’s Flair” collection is designed to make women feel strong and confident.

  7. Indeed Danilo Gabrielli is very much well known in the fashion industry. After attending one of the best fashion schools in his native Italy, working for various top designers there, and moving to New York to serve as senior designer for Nautica, Ghurka, Simply Vera Wang, Club Monaco and Anne Klein, designer Danilo Gabrielli is only ‘emerging’ in the sense that most recently, he has created his own collections. Good article to get inspiration! Well done!
