$10,000 Designer Shopping Spree!!!

It’s a yearly adrenaline rush. As much as I hate to see the end of summer barbecues and beach days, the anticipation of fall gives me a jolt of excitement that rivals any 4^th of July fireworks display. That’s right, although I’ll miss the flirty sundresses and flip-flop friendly days of summer, they’re no competition for the rich hues and weighty fabrics of fall designer fashions. After all, there’s a reason why the September issue is the centerpiece publication for every fashion magazine. This is the time when fashion is at its finest. So, while my male cohorts are enjoying a little friendly competition in their fantasy football leagues, I thought, “Why not partake in a seasonable sport of my own with some fantasy shopping?” So, armed with a $10,000 budget but limitless enthusiasm, I set out on a fantasy designer fashion shopping spree to three of my favorite fashion retailers: Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Barney's. First stop: Neiman’s!

As I walk into what can only be described as high fashion nirvana, I can’t help but think, “What better way to welcome the cooler temperatures than with a spectacular coat?” And the selection at Neiman Marcus is positively lustworthy! With so many lavish fabrics and designer styles to choose from, it’s hard to pick just one. However, it is Armani, one of the most prestigious names in fashion, who tops my most-wanted list this year with the super-chic winter wool coat shown below.

Made in Italy of angora, wool and cashmere, this designer coat from Neiman Marcus’ Armani Collezioni collection, features an ultra-feminine a-line skirt, slit pockets and a removable rabbit fur collar. My fave element though is the oh-so-chic waist-defining belt. For a stunning investment piece like this, I’ll happily pay the $3,315 pricetag. It is fantasy money after all! ;-)

Whew – that was a pretty big chunk of change, worth every penny of course! Still, I don’t want to get carried away. If I want my stay in fantasy land to extend beyond five minutes, my next item should be a bit more budget-friendly. Oooh – I’ve found the perfect pick in the form of one of this season’s must-haves: the vest. I love the casual, slightly structured version from La Rok shown below

I would wear this buttoned or open with my fave skinny jeans. And the sequined tank looks fabulous with it! Metallics are so hot right now. This would make a great Saturday night look -- I should really pick the tank up too. Wait a minute – the tank is attached?! This is almost too good to be true. At $278, this vest-tank combo is definitely a stylish steal. Sold!

Okay, since life isn’t all play, I should probably find something for the office. Time to look for some suiting! I have to confess, I’m a “suitaholic.” An impeccably tailored business suit gives me an instant confidence boost like no other item can. And this fall’s geometric silhouettes are more exciting than ever. My ultimate pick though is the structured couture jacket by Aquilano Rimondi shown below.

In a season that’s all about the bold shoulder, Rimondi serves up an unexpected chic with voluminous three-quarter sleeves and detailed folded cuffs. Made in Italy, this Black wool designer jacket features a notched collar, hidden front closure and front slit pockets. At $1,555, it’s going to put a dent in my pocketbook, but that’s a-okay with me. I love it!!

I’m not usually one to veer far from my fashion comfort zone. However, I’m in the rare mood for a little risk-taking today, so I think I’ll check out a trend that’s been at the top of every must-have list for fall. That’s right my fellow fashionistas – I’m going to open my mind (and my wallet) to leggings! Looking at the diverse selection, it’s clear that the designer versions of today are much more sophisticated than the ones that I remember from the 80s. I see all kinds of uber-chic styles in leather, snakeskin and even lace, but I don’t think I’m quite ready to take that much of a fashion plunge. (Maybe next year!) Instead, I’ll go for the luxe comfort of Donna Karen’s cashmere version shown here.

Although they’re also available in Light Grey, I’ll opt for classic Black. At $495, they may not be the most budget-conscious interpretation of the trend, but I’ll bet that they’re the most comfortable. After all, they’re a combination of two of my favorite things: cashmere and stretch! Plus, who knows more about fit and flattery than Donna Karen? I’ll trust her designs every time!

Uh-oh. I’ve already spent half my budget and I’ve only been in one store! Okay, time to head to Bergies. As hard as it is to pull myself away from Neiman Marcus, I know that the fashionable finds at BG will be just as enticing!

My first stop at Bergies is the cocktail and evening section. I have a few dinner parties coming up, and I’d love to treat myself to something new that’s sophisticated without being too formal. Wow – that didn’t take long. One look at Heidi Weisel’s off-the-shoulder sweater and silk crepe pant ensemble below and I’m sold. The flowing Black silk pants are the

epitome of modern elegance. But it’s the pure silk chiffon lining that gives them major strut appeal. Paired with the off-the-shoulder cashmere and nylon fitted sweater, this perfectly put-together look is both sleek and slightly seductive. I also love the ease and versatility of separates. I’ll definitely wear the sweater with other pants and jeans. The fitted shape will contrast beautifully with a slouchy bottom to create a sharp silhouette. At $1265 for the pant and $585 for the sweater, they may not be the most cost-effective choices, but they’re just too tempting to resist. I can’t wait to wear them!

The next item for my shopping bag is destined to be one of my go-to pieces this season. Just one look at Autumn Cashmere’s Dark Grey cashmere hoodie shown below and I know that I’ll want to live in it!

I love the fact that the cowl collar can also be worn as a hood. And what could be more inviting on a cold winter day than the comfort of being draped in sumptuous cashmere? At $396, this is definitely a must-have!

Yikes! My budget is dwindling and I haven’t even looked at shoes yet! Time to hit Barneys New York for some fabulous footwear before the best finds of the season are gone.

Since my apparel choices haven’t been overly wild, I think I’ll release my inner diva through footwear. And my first choice is definitely a scene-stealer. The shoe bootie is one of the hottest items this season, and Christian Louboutin kicks up the style quotient with the black lace platform shown below

The Clic Clac Black bootie gets its “wow!” factor from sultry lace detailing and a 4’ 7/10” platform heel that is truly runway-worthy. This attention-grabber is made all the more interesting by the juxtaposition of the black lace, a nighttime staple, against suede, a material traditionally reserved for daytime looks. I also love the added embellishment of the button and loop closure and, of course, the signature Loubouton Red leather sole. Made in Italy, this statement bootie is $1,045. I can’t wait to wear this designer shoe. It will bring instant chic to any outfit!

Also from Christian Loubouton, the Josefa sandal shown below manages to encompass three huge trends – the peep-toe, platforms and metallics – without looking over-the-top. The suede-covered platform is an elegant show-stopper with its metallic leather criss-cross detailing. Although I love the dramatic contrast of Black and Gold, I also covet this showstopper in its two other incarnations: Pewter and Nude. At $1,025 a pair though, I can only afford one. So, in the interest of making a dramatic entrance (and exit!), the Black and Gold it is!

Oh no. I only have $41 dollars left and I feel like I’m just getting started! I suppose I could hit the sale sections and try to find a fun knock-off of one of the season’s must-have accessories like an oversize cocktail ring. On second thought, maybe I’ll save the balance for my next fantasy shopping spree. I could definitely put it toward any number of designer finds. Now if only my fantasy money were accepted at Neiman’s, Bergies and Barney’s. (Sigh) Still, real or not, I’ve had a blast. The guys may not agree, but I think this beats fantasy football any day! :-)

The Hysteria Clutch shown below comes in Tortoise Shell print patent leather and features Goldtone hardware, a zip-top closure, side ties, an inside pocket, and Metal Gucci crest detail. Made in Italy, it measures 15.5"W x 8.7"H x 2.4"D. If it’s a luxe evening look that you’re after, this is the designer handbag for you! Originally $1,250, it has been marked down to $838 during this designer sale.

If you’re a fan of rich textures like I am, you’ll want to check out the suede designer handbag by Jimmy Choo shown below. The Simone Suede Flap Hobo features Goldtone hardware and knotted leather top handles. But the piece de resistance is the fun enameled horseshoe accent on the flap top. After all, who can’t use a little good luck? Made in Italy, this Jimmy Choo designer handbag was originally priced at $1,995, but has been marked down to $1,337. Buy it now and you’ll be stepping stylishly into Fall!

I’m also in love with the ultramodern silhouette of the Christian Louboutin Twisted Shoulder Tote shown below. Made in Italy of luxurious calfskin, it features a twisted shoulder strap and the distinguished openwork “Louboutin charm.” This elegantly structured tote is available in black or white. Originally, $1995, it has been reduced to $1337 as part of the BG designer handbag sale.

Another of my fave designer handbags is the Prada Tessuto + Vernice tote. This sumptuous handbag comes in Black as well as the regal Purple shown below. It has an elegant woven chain handle with patent leather and luggage tag detailing. I especially love the pleated bottom which adds an extra opulence. This gorgeous Prada designer handbag measures 15"H x 16 1/2"W x 7 4/5"D, and was originally priced at $1350.  It is now on sale at Bergies for $905. I want it!

Also from Prada, the eye-popping Naplak Bowler puts a playful punch on a classic design. Available in the brilliant Yellow shown below or an equally fabulous Fuschia, this designer handbag is guaranteed to liven up any look. Made of patent calf leather, it features double top handles, an inside zip pocket and a luggage tag accent. The Yellow version of this designer handbag features a Silver tone zip top, while the Fuschia version has a Gold tone. Crafted in Italy, it measures 11 1/4"H x 17"W x 6"D. Finally, the black leather Bottega Veneta origami tote, shown below is a true stunner. At a sale price of $1,778, it’s not for the faint of heart. However, it’s still a sizable discount from the original price of $3,950. The origami detail gives this piece extraordinary elegance. If you can spare the expense, it’s the kind of designer handbag that you’ll have for a lifetime.

I want it!

Another of my faves from the BG designer shoe sale is the Cage d’Orsay from Jimmy Choo shown below. This beautifully crafted designer shoe is a sultry interpretation of the classic d’Orsay pump. I absolutely love the cutout detail. Combined with the ultra-feminine peep-toe, the Cage d’Orsay, is a true standout. Best of all, this designer shoe is one of those coveted multi-taskers that translates effortlessly from day to night – classic enough for the office but alluring enough for a night on the town. Made in Italy of Black kid leather, it features a 3 1/3” covered heel.

Originally $640, it has been reduced to $429. Given its high quality and versatility, I’m sure that I could easily wear this designer shoe more than 429 times in my lifetime. That’s less than a dollar per wear! Who can pass up a deal like that, my fellow fashionistas? ;-)

Look up “fabulous” in the dictionary and you should find a photo of the high-wattage Yves Saint Laurent studded platform designer sandal shown below. This showstopper features Gold-tone hardware, buckle detail at the inner ankle and stud detail on the vamp. It has a 4” covered stiletto heel. In addition to the Fuschia version shown here, it is also available in Black patent leather. Made in Italy, this statement shoe was originally $795, but now reduced to $533 during this Designer Sale. I’m completely in love with this stunning Sedarby Jeweled d’Orsay by Manolo Blahnik. One of the newest arrivals to the BG designer shoe sale, this multi-green d’Orsay style pump, shown below is made of sumptuous nappa leather and features a pleated vamp with opulent jewel detail. Made in Italy, it has a 3 1/2" covered heel. Originally $715, this standout shoe is now on sale for $479. Buy it now and turn heads for years to come. It’s definitely on my wish list!

Also from Manolo Blahnik comes the Boflat metallic thong sandal shown below. Intricately adorned with Turquoise and coral-hued stones, this rich Bronze sandal exudes a seductive tropical vibe. As an added bonus, it has a flat heel and an elastic strap over the instep, both of which make it a comfortable choice for backyard gatherings on hot summer days; after all, who wants to find themselves with a stiletto heel suddenly stuck in the grass! Crafted in Italy from the highest quality nappa leather, it was originally priced at $815, but now on sale reduced down to $546. This designer sandal would look stunning with shorts, capris or, for a more romantic boho look, with a soft, flowing skirt.

Bringing a flirtatious touch to the look, the accompanying D&G ruffle skirt features a red, white and navy abstract print. Made of cotton with a pleated front, it has a ruffled silk hem. If you want to raise the glamour quotient in red, white and blue this Independence Day, then look no further than the Michael Kors designer dress shown below. Who needs fireworks when you can set off sparks of your own in this striking, color-block sheath? Red and navy, it has a white patent leather belt with white stud detail at the natural waist. Year after year, one of my go-to summer looks is a stylish halter. And one of the most covet-worthy this summer comes from Diane von Furstenberg. The famed designer’s bamboo halter scarf features a multicolor abstract print. It is available in both red and lilac shown below. Made in Italy of pure silk, it was originally $215 but is now on sale at BG for $140. DVF, I love it!

The asymmetric look has never been hotter. The trend has been seen on everyone from celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe to First Lady Michelle Obama who opted for the now-famous Jason Wu single-shoulder gown at this year’s inaugural galas. For anyone looking to try out the one-shoulder look, BG offers plenty of designer choices.

And now for that special night out, the Stella McCartney asymmetric dress, shown below, is an elegant option that would be hard to pass. This marine blue design is satin with gathered bow detail at the shoulder. The soft silhouette is also flattering to all figure types. For a more casual and affordable version of the asymmetric trend, I like the Roberto Rodriguez lemoncello tee, shown below. This cotton / spandex t-shirt has a high-fashion feel thanks to its stylish dolman sleeves and bow detailing at the shoulder. Originally $231, it’s on sale now marked down to $150.

One of the biggest fashion stories this year has been the return of the jumpsuit. Stella McCartney takes on the trend with the voluminous black silk version shown below. There’s nothing conservative about this backless, wide-legged design, so be prepared to turn some heads! Made in Italy, it has a halter neckline and is on sale at Bergies for $897, down from the original price of $1,495.

Also from Stella McCartney, the jersey top shown below exudes an unexpected elegance. With its sweetheart mesh neckline, this designer piece represents sexy sophistication at its best. It features a darted seam and is made in Italy of viscose / polyamide / elastane. A true multi-tasker, this top would work under a blazer or by itself with a pair of skinny jeans or wide-legged pants. Originally $665, it has been reduced to $399.

One of the hottest trends this season is the boyfriend look and there’s a number of pieces in BG’s apparel sale collections that you can choose from. For example, Stella McCartney offers a sophisticated take on this trend with the ice pink boyfriend shirt shown below.

Silver Lurex® stripe detail and slit cuffs lend added interest to the classic button-front design while the sheer fabric gives it a decidedly feminine air. Wear it with a silky cami underneath to channel the “boudoir” look that is all over the runways this year. Imported and made of silk / polyester, this designer shirt features a spread collar. For a  more casual interpretation of the boyfriend trend check out Helmut Lang’s indigo boyfriend jeans. This of-the-moment look, shown below, features roll-up cuffs and a button fly. Made in the USA, the cotton / elastane blend gives these jeans a lightweight feel.

The relaxed cut also makes them appropriate for everything from an office barbecue to a boardwalk stroll. Originally priced at $285, they’re on sale now for $185. Dress them up with a sequined top or go for effortless chic by pairing them with a basic tee.

From Elizabeth and James, the designer line by style icons Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, I love the ruched bust and empire waist on the black cotton cabana designer dress shown below. While it exudes an air of playful innocence from the front, the daring cutout back gives this dress an unexpected “wow” factor -- perfect for anyone who wants to make a dramatic exit. Originally $345, it is on sale at BG for $173.

Finally, no fashion post would be complete without mention of one of this year’s most polarizing trends. Love it or hate it, the harem pant is definitely back. Lately, it’s been seen on celebs from Jennifer Hudson to Angie Harmon and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas. Don’t worry though: The Robert Rodriguez version shown below is far removed from MC Hammer’s famous gold lame style statement of the 90s.

This modern interpretation of the look is made of polyester / spandex and features a tie-belt at the natural waist, side slash pockets, gathered cropped legs, and a pleated front. Originally $297, this hot designer look is on sale marked down to $178.

My next pick is the Botkier Gladiator Satchel shown in the image below. For this designer handbag you can choose crème or white sheepskin/patent cowhide. The Crème has snake embossing. This designer handbag has Gold-tone/silver-tone hardware. It features extended-tab and turn lock closure, side pockets, interior zip pocket, cell phone pocket and slip pocket. Originally priced at $675, this desigenr handbag is now on sale at $473.

I also like the Botkier Woven Leather Tote shown in the image below. Unfortunately this designer handbag isn't on sale. Priced at $795 it's available in wither white or black snake-embossed leather with ring detail on the front. It features Gold-tone hardware and top handles with rings.

In the apparel collections, the made in Italy Stella McCartney Cutout Blouse shown in the two image below is super chic and stunning. Made from cotton/silk, as shown in the second image below this Stella McCartney designer blouse has a buttoned up back. This is a sophisticated Stella McCartney piece. The Stella McCartney Belted Jacket in Black as shown in the image below, is also super chic. Originally priced at $1,795 but now on sale at $1,077, this made in Italy designer jacket which ties in the front, features an oversized shawl collar, long sleeves with button cuffs.

The BG sale also has a good selection of designer handbags on sale including handbags from Gucci, Prada, Botkier, MARC by Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, and more. Here are my picks from the designer handbags collection.

My first pick is the Botkier Ziggy Hobo available in Black or Smoke Lamb leather and Goldtone hardware. I prefer it in Black as shown in the picture below. This designer handbag is gorgeous! It has a top handle, zip top and flap closure as well as a convenient zip pocket on the front. It also features a logo jacquard lining. The bag measures 14 1/4"H x 5 1/4"W x 9 1/2"D and is on sale now at $438 discounted down from its original price of $625.

The other Botkier that I like is the Botkier Kika Satchel. Like the Botkier Ziggy Hobo, the Kika Satchel is available in Black or Gray Lamb leather and Goldtone hardware. Once again I prefer it in Black as shown in the image below. As you can see, this designer handbag has top handles, zip top and a hanging logo charm on one side and a bow detail on the other. The bag measures 13 1/2"H x 5"W x 8 1/2"D and is on sale now at $382 discounted down from its original price of $545.

When browsing through the handbags you'll see a large top handle Gucci bag in black dialux fabric with gunmetal leather trim and tassel with metal plate details that's really hot but so is the sale price of $2,606 discounted down from its original price of $3,890. So from Gucci I've picked the Hysteria Clutch in dark grape patent leather with Goldtone metal Gucci crest detail as shown in the image below.

Made in Italy, this gorgeous Gucci handbag has a zip-top closure, side ties and an inside pocket. It measures 5 1/2"H x 10"W x 2 1/2"D and on sale at $466, discounted down from its original price of $695.

The Dolce & Gabbana Easy Way Bowler in Rossa (red) with Silver-tone hardware as shown in the image below is another designer handbag to die for. This handbag has top handles with rings, a detachable shoulder strap and double-zip top with buckle detail. The ribbed quilting, front logo plate and zip pocket add to its style. Made in Italy, this bag is on sale at $1337, discounted down from its original $1995 price tag.

Another pick from the D&G Dolce & Gabbana designer collection, is the Amber Satchel in Mud brown calf leather and Goldtone hardware.  As shown in the image below, this handbag is one hot looking bag. It's super stylish. Made in Italy, this designer handbag features a top handle and Kiss-lock closure, contrast topstitching and logo embroidery. Also on sale at Bergdorf you'll find a small collection of designer shoes from designer labels including Christian Louboutin, Mui Mui, Jimmy Choo, Gucci, Marc by Marc Jacobs and others.

From the D&G Dolce & Gabbana designer shoe collection I like the Carla Leather Pump available in either Blue Green or Cognac Calfskin. As can be seen from the image below, this designer shoe has a 4" stiletto heel and a peep toe. Originally priced at $415, the D&G Dolce & Gabbana Carla Leather Pump is now on sale at $278.

For a sophisticated look I like the Gucci Hollywood Satin Pump in champagne satin with light gold horsebit, shown in the image below. Made in Italy, this designer shoe has a 4 1/4" high heel pump and is on sale at $417 discounted down from an original price of $595.

My final pick is the Gucci Hysteria high heel bootie in Chocolate leather with metal Gucci crest detail. As shown here in the image below, the Gucci Hysteria high heel bootie sports a 4 1/10" heel and will certainly give a hot chic look. Originally priced at $ $995 this bootie is on sale now at $697.

So you can see from this quick review, the current Bergdorf Goodman Designer Fashion Sale has all kinds of lustworthy designer clothing, shoes and handbags on sale. However, you still have to be pretty well off to take advantage of the huge discounts.
