Fast and Fabulous Fashions at Affordable Prices!

WHAT do top fashion designers Stella McCartney, Erin Featherston, Alice Temperley and relative new comer Jonathan Saunders all have in common?

Well apart from having gorgeous clothes (as all self-respecting fashionistas will know), they are now also united by having produced a range of designer clothing for Target. Up and coming style guru Jonathan Saunders recently joined the ranks after months of speculation, by designing an exclusive limited-edition collection for Target GO International, making the hottest chic designer fashion available to women at affordable prices.

With fab fashions more accessible and affordable than ever before clothes seem to have an increasingly shorter expiry date. A recent report by The Council of Textile and Fashion Industries of Australia (TCTFIA) found Australian women aged under 30 bought, on average, 112 garments a year - double that of women aged over 30. Many of these purchases then rapidly become excess to requirements (really, how many items can one wear in a year?), with many of those garments relegated to the dark recesses of the wardrobe or given to local charity shops after only a week’s wear!

By comparison the guys were revealed as somewhat more conservative, buying an average of only 29 items of clothing a year.

Is this ‘buy and bin quick’ trend further emerging evidence of consumerism gone mad – fast food, fast fashions - or just an indication of passion for ever changing variety and style in the fashion stakes?

Way back in 2005 fashion designer Stella McCartney created waves when she signed up for a one-time run with UK retailer H&M; this designer also did a range for Target (Australia), launched March 2007.

The trend for affordable access to once elite fashion labels has escalated beyond all expectations since, with a plethora of fashion designers creating budget lines of their gorgeous clothes.

The TCTFIA report suggests that young people have become victims of the fast fashion phenomenon, with cheap clothing dropped into stores more frequently - often weekly.

Within this scenario it seems obvious that budget range designer clothing is likely to be treasured and is at the top end of ‘fashion chain’, but the sheer volume and accessibility of clothing across the board means it’s life time is shorter than ever before.

There are now also emergent concerns about the environmental impact of disposable fashion and where the clothing ends up once its use-by date is up or it is replaced by the next fleeting trend. Raw resources are used at an increasing rate, and once disregarded the huge quantities of clothing must be disposed of.

It seems that the market is ever greedy for more – more affordable fashions, more often, and more quantity and variety. As all good marketers know, marketing is about finding a gap in the market and then filling it.

Richard Chai will soon become the next limited-edition fashion designer to create the a range of chic women's fashion for Target GO International. Chai's exclusive collection including an assortment of tailored separates and chic dresses will be available at most Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com/go in early August, with prices ranging $12.99 to $79.99.

Designer Shoes, Handbags and Jewelry at Affordable Prices!

But it’s not just about chic clothes – it is about an entire look. Fabulous fashionistas require – no demand – accessories to set their outfits off to perfection – and a number of designers have launched into the market to fill this need.

Much vaunted designer Monica Botkier will offer up a line of purses, clutches, and wristlets starting on July 20. Called Botkier for Target, the accessories will be in stores until September 14, 2008. Price points range from $19.99 to $49.99.

New York City based jewelry designer Dean Harris will shortly be offering a limited edition jewelry line. The Dean Harris for Target designer jewelry collection, most of which are nature-related, will be available at most Target stores nationwide and at Target.com from August 17 through December 27, 2008 at prices from $19.99 to $99.99.

Fashion accessories designer giants Anya Hindmarch and Sigerson Morrison are also creating limited edition collections for Target. Anya Hindmarch will be designing a line exclusive, stylish yet affordable designer handbags while Sigerson Morrison will be creating a line of affordable designer shoes which will be up for grabs in early October at Target stores nationwide, with select styles sold exclusively through Target.com. Anya Hindmarch designer handbags are liked by celebrities including Scarlette Johansson, Madonna, Claudia Schiffer, Angelina Jolie for their excellent craftsmanship while Sigerson Morrison's designer shoes are a favorite of celebrities such as Naomi Watts.

Fast and Chic Designer Fashions at Affordable Prices - but could the cost be too much?

Thanks to the fashion revolution of designers now catering for mass markets we can all look better for less. However, should the reality of waste and environmental concerns be given some consideration? Fashion is fickle, and while it's fun to be trendy and gorgeous should we be looking to a more sustainable approach to life in the fast fashion lane? Jewelry in the Sex and the City Movie

In the recent post "The Sex and the City (SATC) Movie and You!" I wrote that "if you ask me, it's the designer jewelry that has caught a lot of attention." Even while in the post Sex and the City, the Fashion Movie is here!, we wrote about the Sex and the City clothes,

shoes, handbags and jewelry worn by the girls in the SATC movie, it was the jewelry that was the hot topic of conversation in the comments on that post. These comments were posted by those who had seen the movie, some more than once, and many were asking about the jewelry.

Charlotte's Jewelry in the Sex and the City Movie

In particular, many of the comments were about the gorgeous Sex and the City jewelry worn by Kristin Davis in her role as the demure, polished and understated Charlotte and it was EmG of Bloomsburg who got the ball rolling in the very first comment on this post by asking:

"I really would like to find out who makes the jewelry that Charlotte was wearing for several scenes in the movie. There was a necklace with three flowers, then earrings with two flowers linked vertically, and then earrings with just one flower. They all looked like they were from the same line. Any help would be great!"

Others including Kristy and Evelyn soon followed. Kristy also asked about the jewelry that Charlotte was wearing and added that:

"I definitely know that the necklace Charlotte was wearing in the scene where the girls are having lunch discussing "coloring" is from Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra Sweet Collection."

Based on the interest I went out researching and came back with what I thought was Charlotte's necklace. But EmG didn't think that my find was on the money so I, like many others, went back to see the movie again, but this time I paid a lot more attention to the detail of the fashion, especially the jewelry in the movie. And don't you just pick up so much more when you see a movie a second time!

Other's joining the commentary also suggested that Charlotte is wearing a Jennifer Fisher NYC necklace but I think that this particular necklace being referred to is the gold heart and diamond necklace that she wears to honor the addition of her daughter to the family. The heart was monogrammed with an "L" and custom designed and made for the movie by Jennifer Fisher. However, after some further research, Kristy is certainly correct as the majority of Charlotte's character jewelry is by legendary French jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels.

Everything is more expensive, more beautiful, the shoes, the jewelry..." and that the "fashion comes from Paris, it Comes from Italy, it comes from New York, it comes from everywhere" and that we can expect some maturity as Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP) herself has said that "taste has changed, palette has changed and that's what happens when you grow up."

However, with all the buzz and after watching the 30-somethings in re-runs of the HBO Sex and the City series for days now, I being a mega SATC fan, can't wait to see the feature-length movie. Yes I want to sit there for 2 hours and 15 minutes and watch the ultra chic and the fabulous and sophisticated Sex and the City style! I want to see the girls strut their stuff again :)

Sex and the City, the Designer Clothing, Designer Shoes, Designer Handbags and Designer Jewelry!

Yes there will be lots of love and sex, and Mr BIG of course, but I want to see the girls in the latest designer clothing and designer shoes as well as the hottest designer handbags and wearing the to-die-for designer jewelry. SATC the movie will no doubt be like going to fabulous designer clothing, designer shoes, designer handbags and designer jewelry fashion shows all lumped into one, 2 hour and 15 minute fashion show. I can't wait.

Now I know that Fred Leighton and Nancy Gonzalez, both played a major role in accessorizing the leading ladies for the film.

Sex and the City, Designer Handbags

Synonymous with style and renowned for being the ultimate in luxurious croc handbags, Nancy Gonzalez was also on the top of Patricia Field's list for accessories for the Sex and the City movie.

Both Samantha and Miranda are seen carrying Nancy Gonzalez designer handbags and crazy as it might seem, Samantha’s little pooch is also accessorized in matching Nancy Gonzalez accessories. This lucky dog is seen wearing a Nancy Gonzalez one of a kind gold croc collar and leash designed to match Samantha’s Nancy Gonzalez gold tote designer handbag (see detail picture below left) and apparently made especially by the designer for the movie. I'm not at all sure about coordinating your outfit with your dog but wouldn't you just love to get your hands on that little pooch ;)

Sex and the City, the Ultimate Chick Flick!

Well will this movie incarnation of the HBO Sex and the City series be the Ultimate chick flick? Not long now to tell but it sure is looking like it will be. I just can't wait to see this chick-flick. Can't wait to see the designer clothes (Vera Wang, Vivienne Westwood, Christian Dior and Oscar De La Renta), the designer handbags (Birkin, Chanel. and Louis Vuittons), the designer shoes and all the bling, the designer jewelry :)

Sex and the City, It's a Fashion Show!

The world premiere of the much anticipated movie, Sex And The City (SATC) takes place in London tonight. Personally I think that New York should have had the first screening, I mean that's where the HBO series was set and shot, that's where the 30-somethings Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha strutted their stuff!

Regardless, as much as Sex and the City is about columnist Carrie Bradshaw, her three gal pals, and their lustful urban quest for good sex, love and fab clothes, being set in New York City, fashion has always been a major part of the story. But now some four years on what can we expect when it comes to the fashion?

Also, will it simply continue on from where the series left off or will the now 40-somethings have matured and matured in the fashions that they wear. Will we see more of the breaking of the rules, the unexpected and outrageous, or will we see a more mature collection of fashion. The following video by BlackTree Media might shed some light on these questions.

 

Well there are some clues there. It is said that "the fashion is really different. And yes we can expect some maturity as Sarah Jessica Parker later says that "taste has changed, palette has changed and that's what happens when you grow up."

Pat Field herself says that the "fashion comes from Paris, it Comes from Italy, it Comes from New York, it comes from everywhere" and when talking about the costumes Kristin Davis (Charlotte) says that "there were just tables of bags, like every new bag that you haven't even seen in the stores yet and then there were tables of shoes, and I mean it was just like Mecca."

So from this we can expect some new ideas but I'm sure that we'll see the latest in designer clothing, shoes and designer handbags. Yes there will be lots of love and sex, but just as importantly, the feature-length Sex And The City movie will be like going to a fabulous fashion show. I can't wait.

My Christmas Wish List (Well one of them)

In a few weeks time I'll be returning home to New York to be with my family for Christmas. I haven't been home in over 8 months and if it wasn't for the odd video call via MSN, I'd probably have forgotten what my family look like such has been my hectic schedule this year. 

This Christmas should be a special occasion since the whole family will be together at my parents house for the first time in decades. Now the fact everyone will be together (and trust me, we'll need quite a few turkey's this year or at least one the size of a cow), that will be the biggest present enough. But just on the off chance that any one is wondering what to get to put in my Christmas stocking, I've come up with a few suggestions from the excellent Fire & Ice Art Glass collections.

Now don't feel compelled to buy me all of the following, just one or two will suffice ;)
I've listed my top 10 items just to make it easier for you.

This year I've decided to let my Irish roots show through and I'm going for a "green theme".

(1) My first choice are these gorgeous Roman Glass & Prehnite Earrings.	An ancient Roman glass bead and a faceted prehnite hang from silver chains, and silver tubes top off the pair. Prehnite and Roman glass earrings with sterling silver posts and backs.
Delicate Roman glass, with a frosted appearance, serenely glows in contrast to the icy cool variegated sterling silver surface. Four organic disks, centered with Roman glass, are connected together by sterling links. An organic and distressed-looking toggle clasp completes the piece.	(2) My second choice is this Roman Glass Round Bracelet which doesn't look too heavy to be distracting.
(3) My third choice is the Roman Glass & Amethyst Cross. I struggled as to whether to make this my number one choice mainly because each cross is uniquely designed, in that no two items are every the same making this a very individual gift.	This cross necklace makes a personal statement. Deep purple amethyst and iridescent 2000-year-old Roman glass are set in sterling silver and dotted with tiny pearls. The pendant hangs from a silver snake chain and features a toggle clasp.
Ablaze with inner light and color, an oval of created blue opal sits above a larger created blue opal, separated by silver beadwork. An 18" sterling silver chain passes through a curved bar, acting as a bezel.	(4) Now I am switching my attention to the Native American selections and here I really adore the Blue Created Opal Necklace.
(5) If I were to wear (4), then I would have to have these Created Blue Opal Oval Dangle Earrings to match. These actually remind me of a pair of earrings that my grandmother had and I hadn't thought of those in 16 years !!	Oval pools of created blue opal sparkle and shine, hand-set in lustrous sterling silver and emphasized by six silver beads below the stone.
Marvel at how this conventional shape could hold such passionate color. In these immaculate heart dangle earrings, granulated silver beads and lime green and silver-filled art glass beads dangle from a streamlined French hook.	(6) These unusual Green Art Glass Heart Dangle Earrings have to be seen close up to appreciate the beauty and although they are down at (6),they do rank as one of my favourites.
(7) I chose these Purple Art Glass Round Dangle Earrings mainly down to the "Christmas" feel and these would be the ones I would wear on Christmas day.	Like the luminous moon, these full-bodied earrings are as ravishing as they are simple in design. A shimmering bead of mystic mauve rests between the textured radiance of gold filigree beads. Sweeping French hooks add grace and elegance to these lovely dangles.
An elegant bale of luscious yellow gold cascades in a glistening rush of lovely bezel-set diamonds to a dazzling drop of sunny, olive-green peridot. The stone's radiant color and gracious cut are lavishly accented by the brilliant tone of its 14K yellow gold setting and fiery diamonds. A gold chain adds quiet grace to this ravishing pendant.	(8) This Peridot Pear Necklace is the first of the gold jewellery I've selected in my list.  As much as I love silver, gold is the color that best compliments my skin tone (which after spending far too much time in London is fast approaching silver in color due to the lack of any sun it appears).
(9) Now if I am to wear the Peridot Pear Necklace, what better to accompany them but the 14K Peridot Pear Dangle Earrings. I even have the perfect party frock in mind to wear that will let both pieces stand out, but that means that you will have to buy two items from the list.	Elegant grace and ravishing beauty come together in this exquisite design. Three fiery, bezel-set diamonds cascade down to a glistening teardrop of dazzling green peridot. The glorious teardrop rests within a classic prong setting. Gleaming 14K yellow gold and dazzling diamonds accentuate the dramatic shape of this radiant stone. Gentle European hooks complete these graceful dangles.
Diamond-studded circles decorate your ears. These drop earrings begin with two circles of 18K white gold set all around with sparkling diamonds. The top circle is attached to the earrings' posts; the other swings freely below. Behind and between the white gold circles is a circle of 18K yellow gold, also filled with glittering diamonds. Dangling below the circles are long pendulums of diamond-studded 18K white gold. Absolutely magnificent!	(10) Now despite these 18KWY White & Yellow Diamond Circles Drop Earrings appearing last on my list, they are my favourite item beyond all doubt.  Unfortunately, I would need to attract a very rich boy friend between now and Christmas in order to find these in my stocking on Christmas day, (and at $2,450.00 now you know why they are sadly at the bottom of the list).

Now not that I want to panic anyone, but there can't be more than 35 shopping days to Christmas, and if you are going to be ordering any goods online, we will need to get our skates on to ensure our deliveries arrive on time.

Now I don't really expect 'anything' for Christmas because I've never been pretentious enough to do so.
