London Fashion Weekend 2007

London Fashion Weekend 2007 On September 26th-30th, London Fashion Weekend 2007 takes place outside the Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD.

This year's London Fashion Weekend is sponsored by Grazia, Britain's first weekly glossy.

Tickets for entry to the show range from £10 to £15.50 (plus booking fee) and can be ordered from seetickets.com.

You will need to make sure you pre-order your tickets and arrive early as the tickets are valid for only one of several sessions per day and there are always queues to get in and out of the venue.

Traveling to the London Fashion Weekend couldn't be easier.  I would take the tube to Gloucester Road and walk the few 100 yards down Cromwell Road.  South Kensington Station is closer, but is usually a lot busier.

MencapIn association with Mencap, the UK's leading learning disability charity, why not have yourself treated like a VIP and help a worthy cause at the same time. For £25 you can buy a Gold Ticket that gives you free entry, a glass of champagne and a goody bag (worth over £25 which more than pays for the price of the ticket!).

If you really want to get the full VIP treatment, for £70 you can purchase a platinum ticket.  This will include a private viewing of the London Fashion Weekend prior to the actual opening along with a champagne reception and complimentary bag of goodies.

For more information about Gold and Platinum tickets, email Kate on kate.tintner@mencap.org.uk

Australian Fashion Week Roundup - Big names stay away!

Australian | Fashion Week | RAFW | Vogue

Oh how some things make me really mad!!!

I read an article "Big names stay away" while doing some online reading about Australian Fashion Week, recently held in Sydney. The article cites a Sydney fashion label owner, Danny Avidan, whose Discovery Group includes well-known fashion labels Charlie Brown and lili, as saying that Australian Fashion Week lacked participation by Australia's own established brands because the fashion week organizers, IMG Fashion, erred in focusing on new talent and failing to persuade more of the country's top operators back to showcase their latest designs. His following statement, and I quote, really ruffled my feathers.

"I think fashion week is a fantastic opportunity for new and emerging talent, but for an established brand to participate in the week is like Madonna going on American Idol."

I couldn't believe that I read this. I couldn't believe that this Sydney fashion label owner really said this. In fact, I wrote to The Age to let them know what I thought about this. Is this fashion designer right? Would established brands avoid participating in fashion week because they would be mixing it with too many new and emerging talents? Would this happen in Paris, London, Milan, Tokyo or New York Fashion Weeks? Does participation of younger, new and emerging talent somehow dilute the standard or quality of Fashion Week shows? I wonder how the many young, new and emerging fashion designer talent around the world would feel about this! I wonder what other established designers around the world think about this!

Aren't Fashion Weeks about showcasing "new and up-and-coming collections" from talented fashion designers whether young and emerging or from the older brigade? Shouldn't Fashion Week's job be to expose all segments? Talented young and emerging fashion designers, and I also include Fashion School graduates in this, also need exposure to the buyers and the press etc who frequent these shows. This experience could easily be the biggest turning point for a young, very talented and creative fashion designer and be that needed break that launches him/her into that established fashion club. Indie and new fashion designers may not as yet have an established name but they often bring a real buzz to these shows! Focusing more on rising talent, and less on established names might be a cry out for something new and exciting!!

It's great to see our most talented young designers amongst the big names. I'm unapologetic about my view on this and would love to hear what other fashionistas and fashion designers, both established and up-and-coming think about this! I would also love to hear what fashion buyers and the fashion press think about this!

Elle.com - New York Fashion Week Day 3

ELLE Magazine | New York | Fashion Week 2007 New York Fashion Week, Fall 2007 is now well in progress and being a fashionista you will undoubtedly have already started seeing, and will no doubt for some time continue to see, many more runway reviews and televised wrap-ups hitting both the traditional media as well as the new media; watch this space! These will show glimpses of fashion models and fashion designers, as well as both the fashion media and general media reporters and their crews, the celebrities like
Britney Spears at the Baby Phat fashion show gracing the front row limelight, the many fashionistas, hoping to catch a glimpse of the beautiful people, in crowded and barely standing room only areas behind the velvet ropes patrolled by stereotyped security staff, and of course, the paparazzi jostling for the best vantage point and hoping that through their lenses they will snap that one in a million shot of a fashion designer, fashion model or fashion conscious celebrity! Thought of in this way you can easily imagine the hustle and the bustle of the meeting of the like-minded at this fashion extravaganza! However, to many a fashionista this would be too much, and to them it is far more enjoyable and less stressful to see this through the eyes of others like Elle Magazine, Elle.com! So once again, with a big thanks to Elle Magazine, here's a video wrap-up from Elle.com with all the action behind the scenes and in the front row of the runway of this fashion extravaganza on Day 3. Here we catch snippets of the collections and insights of the talented fashion designers Lela Rose, Erin Fetherston, Nicole Romano and Phillip Lim.

Fashion Designer, Lela Rose

Texas native and fashion designer Lela Rose starts off by divulging how she is very much inspired by the fabrics. "Everything starts with fabric," Lela says and when you look at her ready-to-wear collection you can easily see why. Beautiful, hand finished fashions in blacks, whites and greys with shots of rich Spring colors including yellow and crimson, each exuding a casual luxury and refinement. The Lela Rose collection can be found at in-store boutiques in Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Stanley Korshak as well as in over 60 specialty fashion boutiques nationwide. Lela Rose can also be found in Nordstrom and Bloomingdales as well as internationally in fashion stores throughout Canada, Taiwan and Japan. For a closer look at the Lela Rose Spring 2007 New York Fashion Week collection, visit Elle.com.

Fashion Designer, Erin Fetherston

The Elle.com behind the scenes look at the much spoken about fashion designer Erin Fetherston gives us some insight into her wandering stars collection which she herself describes as being "inspired by things nocturnal and the stars and everything can look more beautiful under the moonlight." While I myself am not hot on the whimsical styles in her Spring 2007 fashion collection, without the wizard caps I do like many of the Erin Fetherston outfits, very original, girlish and fun, and yes the "baby dolls on the moon" are very feminine.

Click on any of the above images to see that particular outfit in the Erin Fetherston Spring 2007 fashion collection in more detail and perhaps you will better see the point I am making about the whimsical look! You can also see lots more of the Erin Fetherston Spring 2007 New York Fashion Week collection at Elle.com.

Fashion Designer, Nicole Romano

What professional women wouldn't love the Romano collection by notable fashion designer Nicole Romano. Just love her styles, use of bright rich colours and delicate prints. Definitely unique elegance, sensuality, with a strong and playful, flirty and sexy feel about them. It's really no wonder that Nicole Romano is a long time favourite of Sex and the City and loved by so many fashion conscious celebs including Jessica Alba, Drew Barrymore, Alicia Keyes, Heidi Klum, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Shakira, Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani. The Nicole Romano collection, full of vibrant separates for women wanting to make a fashion statement was presented to a packed audience.

Fashion Designer, Phillip Lim

Gosh after only Day 3 and so many favorites already at this year's New York Fashion Week and here's yet another. Successful fashion designer Phillip Lim's collection of beautiful, chic and elegant designs in soft pristine whites and neutrals demonstrate functional fashion and as succinctly stated by Phillip Lim himself, "every piece has a purpose." Being available in over 250 US boutiques and department stores and represented in 26 countries worldwide Phillip Lim is already a commercial success but there can be little doubt that he will be an even bigger success in the years to come. Photography kindly sponsored by Shopstyle.com and once again a big thank you to Elle.com for the fantastic video wrap-ups. I can't wait to see the next installment!

Elle.com - New York Fashion Week Day 2

Baby Phat | New York Fashion Week

Back at New York Fashion Week, thanks to Elle.com, here's a video wrap-up of all the action behind the scenes and in the front row of the catwalk on Day 2.

Baby Phat certainly has an interesting mix on show at this year's event and here's a snap (click on image for full details) of another one of my favorites from the collection. This time on the catwalk, we see a sophisticated outfit with a somewhat Eastern feel. It clearly shows that as well as hip-hop styles, Baby Phat is also into high class fashion. Elle.com - New York Fashion Week Day 1

Sadly we can't all go to New York but thanks to Elle.com here's a great video wrap-up of all the action behind the scenes and in the front row of Day 1 of New York Fashion Week. Also, here's a snap (click image to see more detail) of a gorgeous Baby Phat outfit on the New York Fashion Week catwalk. It's very casual and very simple in a way but I do like the style and think it's sassy, sexy, and stylish. Photography kindly sponsored by Shopstyle.com

New York Fashion Week

Sass & Bide Scoop on Shopping for Women, Teen, Girls, Fashion, Clothing, Shoes, specials, reductions, Bargains Sales One of my favourites strutting their stuff on the catwalk at last week's premier US showcase for fashion was Sass and Bide, one of Australia’s hottest design labels. The collection included outfits inspired from themes of the late 1920s to early 40s but many with an Egyptian influence having designs that followed the sharp geometry of the pyramids as well as the simple black, gold and white colours of that country's ancient art. The absolute favorite for me on the New York fashion Week catwalk is Sass and Bide's her voice was lost panelled dress shown here in this picture taken at the
September New York fashion Week. It really is no wonder that Sass and Bide is seen worn by so many celebrities including Sex in the City star Sarah-Jessica Parker and Victoria Beckham and featured in so many fashion magazines.
